What to do
Forest of dean and wye valley things to do
Who doesn’t adore a good day out. We have curated a unique list of day trips in the local area that never fail to impress us and hopefully make your stay more enjoyable.
A Space for Creativity

Channel your inner poet as you wander through the ruins of Tintern Abbey. The romantic decay of this iconic structure is best experienced on a misty morning or golden afternoon. It’s moody, it’s majestic, and it’s an Instagram post waiting to happen.
Symonds Yat

Is there anything quite like the panoramic views from Symonds Yat? Take in the River Wye’s meandering beauty from above or try your hand at canoeing for a splash of excitement.
Cycling Adventures

Slip into your finest Lycra (or something close to it) and hit the trails. From gentle lanes to more challenging routes, cycling in the Severnside region is a breath of fresh air with a dash of adrenaline.
Surrounding areas
Places a short car journey away that we love.
Gloucester

Step into the pages of history with a visit to Gloucester Cathedral, where Gothic architecture stands tall and proud. Take a moment to admire the vaulted ceilings and, for the film buffs among us, reminisce about Harry Potter scenes filmed on location.
Cirencester

Cirencester, often referred to as the ‘Capital of the Cotswolds,’ boasts a delightful mix of shops, eateries, and art. A stop at the Jubilee Galleries is non-negotiable for art lovers seeking an elegant touch.
Stroud

Stroud pulses with an artistic spirit that’s both charmingly eclectic and wonderfully authentic. And don’t miss The Malthouse Collective—a treasure trove of antiques, vintage finds, and chic homeware that will have you redecorating in your head before you leave.
Cheltenham

Ah, Cheltenham—the town that never fails to dazzle. For an afternoon of shopping, dining, and a sprinkle of culture, visit Spring Cheltenham. Fashionable, fun, and utterly fabulous.
Nailsworth

The gem of Nailsworth brims with independent shops and a relaxed, friendly vibe. Swing by Domestic Science for a blend of vintage chic and modern marvels—it’s the kind of place where you’ll say, “I didn’t know I needed this,” and yet, here you are.
Monmouth

A historic market town on the Welsh border, Monmouth blends heritage with modern charm. Wander its picturesque streets, visit the medieval Monnow Bridge, or explore Monmouth Castle. With independent shops, cozy cafés, and a thriving arts scene, it’s perfect for a relaxed day out.

beautiful villages
The B&B is situated close to some of the most beautiful villages in the Forest of Dean. All in all I would happily re-visit Severnside Press and would definitely recommend it as a place to stay for a holiday in the FoD.
lots of places to visit
The custom made breakfast is second-to-none. I loved the Gloucester sausages! The town is scenic & in range of lots of places to visit. Locals are very friendly & it seems to be an artistic hub of the region. Well recommended!! Five stars!
LOCAL KNOWLEDGE
We stumbled across this absolute gem of a BnB and are so glad we did… Tony gave us some wonderful recommendations of dog friendly eateries nearby, and places to visit, which was great as we were completely new to the area.
