The Speech House Loop

A Classic Forest Walk

Start your adventure at the historic Speech House, a grand old lodge in the heart of the forest, just a 20-minute drive from us. One of the classic forest of dean walks, the loop takes you through lush woodland, with towering oaks and ancient beech trees shading the path. Keep an eye out for the local wildlife—wild boar, fallow deer, and maybe even a cheeky squirrel or two. It’s an easy-to-moderate 5-mile walk, with plenty of benches along the way for a picnic or a quick breather. Perfect for a leisurely walk with your dog, especially after a hearty Sunday lunch at the dog friendly The Miners Arms in Sling.

forest walks

Tony gave such a warm welcome with tea and delicious cake. The location is perfect: Newnham is a beautiful little village, right beside the river and so close to a multitude of forest walks. The room was elegant, soothing and tasteful, and I think the bed was the comfiest I’ve ever slept in.
