What time is check-in and check-out?
Check-in is from 4pm-10pm and check-out is by 10:30am. If you need a little flexibility, please let us know before your stay and we’ll always do our best to help.
Is breakfast included?
Yes, breakfast is included with your stay. We’ll provide a two course breakfast, so you can start the day slowly before heading out to explore Newnham-on-Severn, the Forest of Dean or the wider Wye Valley.
Is there parking available?
Yes, parking is available nearby. We’ll send you full arrival and parking details before your stay so you know exactly where to go.
Are you dog friendly?
Yes, Severnside Press is dog friendly. We welcome well-behaved dogs and the local area is perfect for walks, riverside strolls and exploring the Forest of Dean. Please let us know when booking if you plan to bring your dog.
How far is Severnside Press from London?
Severnside Press can be reached by car in just over two hours via the M4 and M5 motorways. For those preferring public transport, direct trains from London Paddington run regularly to Gloucester or Lydney with taxi services available onwards.Â
What local amenities are nearby?
Newnham-on-Severn has a small selection of local amenities, including shops pubs cafés and a restaurant. You’re also well placed for the Forest of Dean, the River Severn, nearby walks, independent places to eat and days out across Gloucestershire and the Wye Valley.
How many nights should I stay?
We’d recommend at least two nights if you can. That gives you time to settle in, enjoy Newnham-on-Severn and explore nearby places without feeling rushed. For a slower break, a long weekend works beautifully.
Do you serve dinner at Severnside Press?
We offer a £20 per head simple seasonal supper to our house guests. Carafes of red or white wine for sale. Let us know in advance & enquire about our current menu.
What makes Newnham-on-Severn different from the Cotswolds?
Newnham-on-Severn offers a quieter, more unspoilt alternative to the busier Cotswolds villages. Set beside the River Severn and on the edge of the Forest of Dean, it has a slower pace, beautiful riverside views and easy access to ancient woodland, walking trails and local places to eat.
Rather than feeling like a destination that has been polished for tourism, Newnham has a more natural, lived-in charm. You can explore historic streets, watch the Severn Bore, walk through nearby forest trails, and enjoy the surrounding countryside without the crowds
Is the Forest of Dean worth visiting for a weekend?
Yes, the Forest of Dean is ideal for a weekend break, especially if you want somewhere peaceful, scenic and easy to explore. Newnham-on-Severn works particularly well as a base because it sits between the River Severn and the Forest of Dean, giving you access to riverside walks, woodland trails, local food and nearby places such as Puzzlewood, Symonds Yat, Tintern Abbey and Clearwell Caves.
A two-night stay gives you time to enjoy the forest, explore the village, eat locally and slow down without feeling rushed.
What are the best things to do in the Forest of Dean?
There is plenty to do in and around the Forest of Dean, whether you want walking, cycling, history, food or a slower countryside escape. Popular options include visiting Tintern Abbey, taking in the views at Symonds Yat, cycling through the forest, exploring Clearwell Caves, walking the Severn Way, watching the Severn Bore, and discovering local villages and places to eat.
For walking, Severnside Press recommends routes including the Speech House Loop, Blaise Bailey Viewpoint, Soudley Ponds, St Anthony’s Well and Flaxley Abbey. These range from gentle waterside strolls to forest trails with far-reaching views.
Which room should I choose?
Severnside Press has three individually designed en-suite rooms, each with its own character.
Choose the Classic Double if you would like a bright, spacious room at the front of the house, with two sash windows overlooking the High Street.
Choose The Suite if you would like extra space, a sitting area and a room that works particularly well for longer stays or family stays.
Choose The View Room if you would like a light, tranquil room at the back of the house, with views over the churchyard, the River Severn and across to the Cotswolds. This is also the dog-friendly room.
Do you host events and supper clubs?
Yes. we host food pop-ups, simple suppers and supper club-style evenings, with menus shaped around seasonal, locally sourced produce.
